CBC Survey on Kanimozhi's Popularity
DMK's Rajya Sabha Member and poet K.Kanimozhi's active involvement in party politics had helped DMK boost its image among women and youth of Tamil Nadu, observes a survey conducted by Chennai Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) among 1,000 people throughout the state. CBC, a news agency established in Chennai at least six months ago, had conducted this survey during the first week of June in Chennai, Trichy, Coimabtore, Madurai and Tirunelveli. 50 per cent sample of this survey are women; overall, 50 per cent of those interviewed are of the age group 18 to 28.
Most of the respondents (78 per cent) felt Kanimozhi will be the woman face of DMK owing to her popularity throughout the state. About 60 per cent of the respondents felt that her coming into DMK had got the party acceptance among the English-speaking elites as well. Liberal-minded women activists, who always keep a distance from DMK , now feel closer to the party as Kanimozhi plays a key role in DMK's decision-making.
Kanimozhi,39, poet-activist was elected to the Rajya Sabha recently on a DMK ticket. Her first-ever election campaign for Madurai West Assembly Constituency byelection was a huge success with high turnout of people last fortnight.
